The one-day refresher course is designed to provide the RSO and licensed radiation workers with information necessary to update their knowledge regarding radiation dose calculations, dose limits, current radiation safety legislation. Relevant information concerning X-ray Analysis equipment, safe work procedures, maintenance and legal obligations will be discussed.

The one-day refresher course is designed to provide the RSO and licensed radiation workers with information necessary to update their knowledge regarding radioactivity and radiation dose rate calculations, dose limits, current radiation safety legislation and transport regulations. Relevant information concerning various industrial gauges, safe work procedures, maintenance and legal obligations will be discussed.

This course is designed for initial and refresher RSO training where fixed nuclear gauges are employed.  Trainees are taught the hazards associated with radioactive materials and become familiar with all the regulations. The course includes basic radiation safety, dose calculations, radiation protection program elements, regulatory inspections, licensing, emergency actions, radioactive material accountability, leak testing, maintenance, transportation, waste management, and the duties & responsibilities of an RSO.

The objective of this training programme is to provide learners with knowledge and skill to manage incidents, with specific emphasis on the identification of the root causes and applying the RCAM (root cause analysis method), taking corrective action and implementing control measures to prevent recurrences in the food industry.

This course has been developed by SGS for the benefit of clients wishing to understand Medical Device Regulation (EU) 2017 – 745 and how to conduct an internal audit against its requirements.The course refers to the Medical Device Regulation that provides the context for internal audit. The objective of this course is to provide leaners with knowledge and understanding of the additional requirements within the Medical Device Regulation (MDR) as well as of the current directives (MDD 93/42/EE) and ISO 13485:2016, including the terminology used and the certification requirements.

Upon successful completion of this course, learners will be able to:Take part in the Radiological Council of WA qualifying examinations and apply for Western Australian License (subject to passing the examinations) for using the X-ray Analysis Diamond Sorting equipment which is a pre-requisite for the appointment of site Radiation Safety Officer (RSO).Supervise directly any unlicensed technical personnel, employee or contractor working with the X-ray Analysis Diamond Sorting equipment.Operate competently and confidently an X-ray Analysis Diamond Sorting equipment and perform restricted service (as per license conditions).Prepare Work Instructions/Radiation Management Plan and Emergency Procedure in compliance with the applicable Code of Practice.

The aim of this course, a pre-requisite to obtaining a licence, is to train persons who intend to perform services on industrial equipment that produces x-ray radiation, in principles of radiation safety. Personnel who perform restricted services are required to hold a licence in compliance with State Legislation.Area of Industry Served:Any industrial application using XRF, XRD or diamond sorting equipment.Upon successful completion of this course, learners:Should be able to successfully pass the *Radiological Council’s qualifying examination conducted by SGS Radiation ServicesWill possess the skills and knowledge to safely operate x-ray equipment without sustaining any clinical biological effects and minimise the hazard to themselves, other workers and member of the public* Please note that the examination is set by and marked by the WA Radiological Council who will directly advise the participant of their mark. Licences are issued only by the WA Radiological Council.

Participants will gain the required information and training so that on completion of this course, they will possess the skills and knowledge for the safe packaging and transport of radioactive substances to successfully pass the Radiological Council’s qualifying examination conducted by SGS Radiation Safety Services.This one day Transport Course and successful completion of the examination is considered a satisfactory prerequisite to obtain a licence to transport radioactive substances.
