Low Voltage Rescue and CPR Training Course
This course is designed to provide participants with the skills and knowledge required to perform a rescue from live low voltage (LV) electrical apparatus using a Low Voltage Rescue Kit in an electrical industry environment. Participants will also learn how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on a person who is unconscious and not breathing normally in line with Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines.

Upon successful completion of the assessment, participants will receive a Statement of Attainment for:
- HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
- UETDRMP018 Perform rescue from a live low voltage panel

Recertification:
Each work site will have its own refresher period requirements. Please check with the work site where you will be working. Generally, this course is refreshed every 12 months. CPR refresher training is recommended annually to maintain skills and comply with Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines
Recognition of Prior Learning
Due to the specific nature and purpose of this course, Recognition of Prior Learning is not available. Offering RPL would introduce unnecessary administrative complexity which can extend your assessment process and time to be longer than the course duration. To maintain uniform standards and ensure competency in critical safety skills, all Learners are required to complete the full training and assessment. Please contact us for further information.
Who This Course Is For
This course applies to workers who may be required to perform a rescue from live low voltage (LV) electrical apparatus and perform CPR in a range of situations including workplace settings.
Pre-Requisites:
HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation is a pre-requisite of UETDRMP018 Perform rescue from a live low voltage panel.
LLN Requirements:
Language, literacy and numeracy skills are required at a level to read, complete, interpret and communicate workplace documentation relevant to this course. This includes counting chest compressions and providing an accurate verbal and / or written report of an incident. Participants with a language, literacy or numeracy difficulty or other special needs should inform our training support staff prior to enrolling to discuss our support services available if required.
Physical Requirements:
Participants must have the physical and mental capacity to:

Perform at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) (5 cycles of both compressions and ventilations) on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor.

Perform at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer CPR (5 cycles of both compressions and ventilations) on an infant resuscitation manikin placed on a firm surface.

Perform a simulated rescue from a live low voltage (LV) panel in accordance with workplace requirements.

Participate in simulated real-life situations required of the skills and knowledge of each unit of competency being undertaken.
Dress code:
Participants are required to wear clean clothing appropriate for the workplace and enclosed shoes.
About this course
This course is designed to provide participants with the skills and knowledge required to perform a rescue from live low voltage (LV) electrical apparatus using a Low Voltage Rescue Kit in an electrical industry environment. It includes the organisational workplace requirements for the inspection and use of live LV panel rescue equipment, and how it applies to electricity supply industry (ESI) workers and/or electrical industry workers to meet work health and safety (WHS)/occupational health and safety (OHS), mobility and mutual aid requirements.
Participants will also learn how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on a person who is unconscious and not breathing normally in line with Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines.
Course Content:
- Identifying organisational rescue requirements
- Identifying hazards, assessing risks and applying control measures
- Identifying the isolation point
- Confirming voltage(s) and related safe approach distance(s)
- Obtaining and inspecting rescue equipment
- Fitting of rescue personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Performing a rescue from a live low voltage (LV) panel in accordance with workplace requirements
- DRSABCD action plan
- Managing the unconscious breathing casualty
- Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) steps
- Demonstration and use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
Assessment
This course includes the following competency-based assessments:
- A Theory Assessment with multiple choice and short answer questions
- Practical Assessment, with tasks including:
- Perform a simulated rescue from a live low voltage (LV) panel in accordance with workplace requirements
- Perform at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) (5 cycles of both compressions and ventilations) on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor
- Perform at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer CPR (5 cycles of both compressions and ventilations) on an infant resuscitation manikin placed on a firm surface
- Follow single rescue procedure including the demonstration of a rotation of operators with minimal interruptions to compressions
- Follow the prompts of an automated external defibrillator (AED)
