CPCWHS1001 - Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry
This NSW White Card course is designed to raise awareness of best and safe practices so as to eliminate risks that cause injuries and fatalities in the workplace. If you work, or want to work, in the Construction Industry, you need to complete a WHS White card course. SGS Australia Pty Ltd RTO 2646
Course Overview
What you'll learn
Participants who successfully complete both the written and practical course requirements will be issued a Statement of Attainment for:
- CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry
Participants will also receive a SafeWork NSW Statement of National WHS General Construction Induction Training as evidence of completing the training until their SafeWork NSW General Construction Induction Card (White Card) arrives. The Statement is valid for 60 days.
Nationally recognised training delivered by SGS Australia Pty Ltd (RTO# 2646) and approved by SafeWork NSW to deliver GIT in NSW.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Due to the duration and purpose of this course, Recognition of Prior Learning is not available. Offering RPL would introduce a financial disadvantage and unnecessary administrative complexity which can extend your assessment process and time to be longer than the course duration. To maintain uniform standards and ensure competency in critical safety skills, all Learners are required to complete the full training and assessment. Please contact us for further information.
Who This Course Is For
This course is designed for anyone who requires a white card (or general construction induction card) who want to carry out construction work. This includes:
- Site Managers, Supervisors, Surveyors, Labourers and Tradespeople
- People who access operational construction zones (unaccompanied or not directly supervised by an inducted person)
- Workers whose employment causes them to routinely enter operational construction zones
Pre-Requisites
There are no pre-requisite units for this course.
Entry Requirements
Participants must be at least 14 years old to enrol in this course
Participants must be able to provide the trainer with a minimum of 100 points of original evidence of identity documents as stipulated by SafeWork NSW. Click here to view these requirements.
LLN Requirements:
Language, literacy and numeracy skills are required at a level to:
- Locate and recognise numbers commonly used in safety signs
- Listen to instructions and ask questions to clarify instructions
- Tell another person about a construction problem or hazard
- Follow simple English and pictorial safety instructions
- Complete a basic form

Dress code:
Participants are required to wear clean clothing appropriate for the workplace, and enclosed shoes.
About this course
This course is designed to raise awareness of best and safe practices to eliminate risks that cause injuries and fatalities at construction sites. This unit of competency specifies the mandatory work health and safety training required prior to undertaking construction work.
Course Content:
- Identify health and safety legislative requirements of construction work
- Identify construction hazards and risk control measures
- Identify health and safety communication and reporting processes
- Identify incident and emergency response procedures
On completion of this training course, you will:
- Gain personal awareness and knowledge of health and safety legislative requirements in order to work safely and prevent injury or harm to self and others
- Learn how to identify and orally report common construction hazards
- Understand basic risk control measures
- Be able to identify procedures for responding to potential incidents and emergencies
- Understand correct selection and fitting of common personal protective equipment (PPE) used for construction work
Assessment:
This course includes the following assessments:
A Theory Assessment with multiple choice and short answer questions
Practical Assessments, including:
Verbal question and answers
- Completing a form
- Correct fitting of personal protective equipment (PPE)
