Who This Course Is For

This course is designed for individuals living in NSW working in the hospitality industry who need to obtain or renew their Food Safety Supervisor certification.  It is ideal for anyone responsible for maintaining safe food handling practices in a commercial kitchen. The training equips Learners with practical skills to manage food safety procedures and ensure all food served is safe for consumption. COURSE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Participants are required to have access to a food preparation or food service workplace to be able to complete the assessment requirements of this course.

  • Participants must be at least 15 years of age.
  • Participants must have a photo ID, or a way for our assessors to identify you for your video assessments.
  • The participant must have language, literacy and numeracy skills at the level required to read, complete, interpret and communicate workplace documentation relevant to the training. This includes:
    • Identifying and interpreting information from workplace procedures, policies, and food safety programs in English
    • Completing documentation for monitoring food safety
    • Communicating information verbally and in writing using industry specific vocabulary
    • Numeracy skills to calibrate and use a temperature probe and calculate timings

You need to make sure that you have the following in order to be able to complete your course:

  • A computer with a modern web browser updated to the latest version
  • A reliable internet connection
  • An email address
  • A device with ability to take photos and videos
  • Ability to upload documents via photo or scanning

What is a Food Safety Supervisor?

In Australia, food businesses are required to appoint a qualified Food Safety Supervisor to oversee food safety practices and ensure compliance with food safety standards. The Food Safety Supervisor is responsible for various duties to manage and improve food safety procedures within their establishment.

A Food Safety Supervisor oversees daily food handling, identifying and managing hazards, and ensuring staff follow safe practices to prevent foodborne illnesses. They possess authority to direct other handlers, hold accredited training, and foster a positive food safety culture, often required by law for food businesses to protect customers.

Upon completion of this course, participants will have the knowledge and skills to:

  • Follow hygiene procedures and identify food hazards

The following assessments must be successfully completed for this course:

  • Complete 2 Online Theory assessments with 100% grade
  • Assignment with Short Answer Questions
  • Third-Party Report (Completed by a Supervisor who can witness you in the workplace, with at least 12 months experience)
  • NSW Food Authority Allergen Module, with 100% passing grade
  • 6 Practical Assessments (Video evidence required) 
    • Appropriate uniform and handwashing
    • Receiving, storing and disposing of stock
    • Prepare, process, package and transport food
    • Safely handles, displays and serves food
    • Report personal health issues
    • Calibrate and clean temperature probe
