Recertification:

It is recommended by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) and the First Aid in the Workplace Code of Practice that you update your CPR skills every 12 months.

Recognition of Prior Learning:
Due to the specific nature and purpose of this course, Recognition of Prior Learning is not available. Offering RPL would introduce unnecessary administrative complexity which can extend your assessment process and time to be longer than the course duration. To maintain uniform standards and ensure competency in critical lifesaving skills, all Learners are required to complete the full training and assessment. Please contact us for further information.

Who This Course Is For

This course is suitable for those persons who may be required to provide CPR, in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.

Pre-Requisites:

There are no prerequisite units for this course.

LLN Requirements:

Language, literacy and numeracy skills are required at a level to read, complete, interpret and communicate workplace documentation relevant to this course. This includes counting chest compressions and providing an accurate verbal report of an incident. Participants with a language, literacy or numeracy difficulty or other special needs should inform our training support staff prior to enrolling to discuss our support services available if required.

Physical Requirements:

Participants must have the physical and mental capacity to:

  • Perform at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) (5 cycles of both compressions and ventilations) on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor.
  • Perform at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer CPR (5 cycles of both compressions and ventilations) on an infant resuscitation manikin placed on a firm surface.
  • Participate in simulated real-life situations required of the skills and knowledge of each unit of competency being undertaken.

Dress code:

Participants are required to wear clean clothing appropriate for the workplace and enclosed shoes

About this course

This course is designed to provide participants with the skills and knowledge required to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on a person who is unconscious and not breathing normally in line with Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines.

Course Content:

  • DRSABCD action plan
  • Managing the unconscious breathing casualty
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) steps
  • Principles and legalities of CPR
  • Infection control
  • Demonstration and use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
  • Hazards and risk management

Assessment:

This course includes the following competency-based assessments:

  • A Theory Assessment with multiple choice questions
  • Practical Assessment, with tasks including:
    • Perform at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) (5 cycles of both compressions and ventilations) on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor.
    • Perform at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer CPR (5 cycles of both compressions and ventilations) on an infant resuscitation manikin placed on a firm surface.
    • Follow the prompts of an automated external defibrillator (AED)
    • Manage the unconscious breathing casualty
    • Respond appropriately in the event of regurgitating or vomiting
