About this course

The EU Artificial Intelligence Act (Regulation (EU) 2024/1689) establishes the world’s first comprehensive legal framework for artificial intelligence and introduces a risk-based approach for legal requirements and governance objectives for AI applications.

The regulation entered into force in August 2024 and will be implemented progressively:

  • Early obligations (e.g. prohibited AI systems) apply from early 2025
  • Requirements for high-risk AI systems apply from late 2026
  • Additional provisions for general-purpose AI models (GPAI) are phased in over the same period

This course provides a structured and practical introduction to the EU AI Act and translates regulatory requirements into actionable compliance steps. Participants gain a clear understanding of risk categories, obligations and governance requirements, including risk management, quality management system, data governance, transparency and human oversight.

The EU AI Act has significant implications for organizations: it directly affects product development, AI system design, compliance processes and market access within the EU. Early preparation is essential to mitigate regulatory risks, avoid penalties and build trustworthy AI systems.
